With the end of the school year in sight, seniors are trying to finish the checklist of their high school careers. Different students will have varying goals to complete, but the milestones of prom, class trip, and graduation are staples on the high school bucket list. Fortunately, seniors don’t have to cross these items off on their own. The Senior Class Executive Council is tasked with the duty of making the last few months of the year memorable, which includes include organizing prom, planning a class trip, and raising the overall enthusiasm of the graduating class. Prom will be the first event crossed out on the list. With the theme of A Night Under the Sea, the Executive Council was able to have a relatively inexpensive dance where tickets were only $40. But, they did not cut any corners on the venue and decorations. This year’s prom will be held at the elegant Country Club of York. |
By writing about prom and events for seniors, I covered a hot topic for the year. This is news because it is very timely and has relevance and proximity. The article come out before the class trip and graduation so that the students could be more aware of what was coming up. I also created the timeline graphic, which shows my Photoshop and design abilities.
“It’s at the country club, so it’s a really nice venue,” Mr. Danner, the senior class adviser, said. “It’s somewhere that not everyone will get to go to in their lives.”
But the fun does not stop at prom. The Executive Council also plans the class trip, which will be held at Six Flags New Jersey. Coach buses will bring the students to the park on May 18th for a day of thrills, relaxation, and camaraderie.
Tickets will be on sale from April 18 until April 28 for $40 each. Since only four buses are reserved for the trip, ticket sales are available on a first come, first served basis.
The amusement park offers attractions to satisfy the rollercoaster daredevil. Danner’s personal recommendations for the more daring seniors are the Kingda Ka and El Toro. But, there is a plethora of other options for the more timid thrill-seekers.
In addition to rollercoasters, Six Flags also boosts less intense, but just as fun, rides like bumper cars, a Ferris Wheel, and go-kart racing.
“If you don’t like roller coasters, there is the merry-go-round,” Jake Patterson, an Executive Council member, said. “That’s a classic.”
Even though senior year seems to fly by, the Executive Council is giving students the opportunity to have a little bit of fun during the home stretch of the school year.
